What is the brain?

The brain is an amazing organ. It is responsible for the advancement of man from a primitive being to one whose accomplishments are unlimited

How can brain research inform teachers?

In recent years educators have explored links between classroom teaching and emerging theories about how people learn. Exciting discoveries in neuroscience and continued developments in cognitive psychology have presented new ways of thinking about the brain-the human neurological structure and the attendant perceptions and emotions that contribute to learning.

Brain research provides rich possibilities for education and reports of studies from this field have become popular topics in educational settings. Many organizations, like Empowering Brains community, are translating these findings into professional development workshops and instructional programs to help teachers apply lessons from research to classroom settings

Neuroscience

Neuroscience is the study of the human nervous system, the brain, and the biological basis of consciousness, perception, memory and learning.

The nervous system and the brain are the physical foundation of the human learning process. Neuroscience links our observations about cognitive behaviour with the actual physical process that support such behaviour. This theory is still "young" and is undergoing rapid, controversial development

How Neuroscience Impacts Education?

When educators take neuroscience into account, they organize a curriculum around real experiences. They focus on instruction that promotes complex thinking and the growth of the brain. Neuroscience proponents advocate continued learning and intellectual development throughout life.

Brain Compatible Environments

What are Brain compatible learning environments?

A brain compatible environment is one in which learning makes sense, is relevant and applicable to students’ own lives. Students are afforded the time to process information, create their own examples and discuss how information can be used. This learning environment has the power to develop the intellect, decision-making, creativity and problem solving. There is an absence of threat and meaningful challenges are presented. Revolutionary discoveries in brain research have generated new insights about how the brain naturally learns best. From these findings, a powerful approach to education called brain compatible learning has evolved. A brain compatible approach integrates the engagement of emotions, nutrition, enriched environments, music, movement and meaning making.
