What is neuroscience?
It is the study of the brain and nervous systems, including structure, function, and disorders. Neuroscience as a discipline emerged only in the last decades. The Human Brain is, as neuroscientistJoseph Le Doux Says in the Emotional Brain, “the most sophisticated machine imaginable, or unimaginable”It is composed of more than 100 billion nerve cells. More than 55 million Americans are afflicted with a brain disorder: conditions that range from learning disabilities to depression to traumatic brain injury. That is nearly one in five of us.
